Hot Dog Onion Sauce

Y'all. I feel so left out about onion sauce, or more specifically, pushcart onions. I had never even heard of them before now!

Food trucks aren't a big thing where I live, though we do have a few around here and there. We don't exactly have pushcarts here in the Biloxi area either, although Lucky Dog pushcarts do exist in New Orleans and apparently now in Bay St. Louis, over on the Louisiana/Mississippi state line. I've had a few of their dogs over the years.

You'll certainly find hot dog vendor booths at our festivals, though I'm more likely to buy a corn dog there than a plain hot dog!

Puff Pastry Pigs in a Blanket with Mustard Sauce

I love pigs in a blanket for an appetizer and apparently I'm not alone! Guaranteed they will be one of the first platters to be cleared at your gathering.

Usually made with a biscuit dough, they are a delicious two bite appetizer for any time, but let me tell you what... make them with puff pastry and they are out of the park!

They are also usually made with hot dogs, and me, I love hot dogs, yes, even though I know how they're made and I know what's in them. I. Don't. Care!

Anybody remember Lums Restaurants?

I certainly do, and when they shut down sometime in the mid to late 70s here from my recollection, it was a little sad. You see, it used to be a regular after school pit stop for a lot of us, including me!

Fork and Knife Baked Chili Cheese Dogs

I. Love. Hotdogs. I do! I don't care about what's in them or how they're made. I don't even want to hear about it. If somebody on Team Food Police tries to lecture me about them, I just plug my ears like a child, and drown them out, lalalalalalala... because I love them.

Sausage and Peppers Stew with Onions with Beans

Sausage and Peppers Stew

I love this quick take on classic sausage and peppers with onions, adding in beans, making it much more filling and satisfying. It's kinda like if you took beanie weenies and sausage and peppers and married them.

I've used Italian sausage here, but you can use any kind of Italian-style sausage like chicken or turkey, or even a good andouille sausage, and I've also used those gourmet hot dogs that come with the steak packages you get as a gift at Christmas.

Nutritional Factoid: Did you know that while most canned beans are very high in sodium, draining and rinsing them gets rid of nearly half of the sodium level? And, just so you know, it also helps to reduce some of those gas-causing sugars too.

Skillet Hot Dog Chili Sauce

I love hot dogs. Love, love, love. I don't care how they are made, or what's in them, or the scary stories, nope, just don't even want to hear about all that, because I. Love. Hot. Dogs. And guess what?

I've tried just about every brand and kind there is out there and I like the cheap ones the best. I'll eat them boiled, microwaved or pan fried, though for me, they really are best cooked on the grill in my humble opinion, and this yummy hot dog chili sauce only makes the experience that much better. Here's how to make my hot dog chili sauce.

Pigs in a Blanket

Little dogs or cocktail sausages wrapped in dough and baked. I think when you have a gathering of any kind, you pretty much have to have pigs in a blanket in attendance, don't you?

Pigs in a Blanket

These are without a doubt a great snack food whether just for the two of you for snacking, for family movie night, or as a party finger food and since you can cut the hotdogs into four pieces, its a snacker that you can really stretch out.

I like them with tender hot dogs the best - and since I always stock up on dogs when they go on sale, it's very budget friendly, especially when you make your own dough. Y'all know I rock the Lil Smokies here too though they aren't my favorites, but those tiny smoked cocktail sausages also work great and save a little cutting up time, but their more costly too.

Beans and Weenies (Beans and Franks)

Beans and Weenies

The Cajun and I had the munchies tonight (and I wonder why I don't lose weight) sooooo I remembered that when I cleaned out the fridge of the bits and pieces of leftovers earlier today I'd run across some hot dogs I'd forgotten about.

So, beans and franks or beanie weenie as we call it, sounded like a plan. Really I just wanted to put it here so I'd remember what I did, but in case anybody's wandering by, measurements are basically guesstimates. Just taste it and see if you like it. Oh, and grab a yummy yeast dinner roll to sop up the juice for sure. I had a few in the freezer that I meant to serve with dinner, but forgot. Worked out now didn't it?
