Shortcut Louisiana-Style Savory Boudin Kolaches

For me, kolaches were like a best kept secret around here in South Mississippi.

In fact, while some of you grew up enjoying some version of the original sweetened Czech version, growing up, I didn't even know they existed!

I also didn't know that kolaches are actually available around here locally, until I poked around the internet recently and discovered that indeed a few bakeries and doughnut shops around the Coast actually do offer them!

Sweet Potato Dumplings

I may have mentioned before that I love sweet potatoes. They're an easy side and so many ways to enjoy them. Plain baked or twice baked, as chips or fries, roasted, grilled, mashed, in a skillet hash, tossed in a buttery glaze or candied in a simple syrup, added to soups, in a casserole, in fried pies or a classic sweet potato pie, in biscuits, or added to quick bread, I'll take them all.

When I bake them, you can be sure I'll bake off a few extra, since they keep several days in the fridge and are super easy to reheat in the microwave. Well, that is when you have a microwave.

Y'all know I love Pillsbury crescent rolls for all the things you can create from them and these easy danish rolls are no exception. These are a slight adaptation from the Pillsbury website and they are so quick, easy and downright delicious, you will love them.

Crescent Apple Dumplings

I call these 7-Up Apple Dumplings, but of course they can be made with any lemon-lime soda, like 7-Up, Sprite or Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew is a very popular choice, but not a beverage I ever acquired a taste for personally.

The soda forms a syrup, generally found with using sugar in regular apple dumplings, though I have been told by readers that you can also use diet sodas for these apple dumplings. I've never done that so I'm not 100% sure if the result is the same without the sugar.

Apple and Cream Cheese Crescent Squares

Pie filling, in this case apple, is sandwiched between layers of crescent dough and a bottom layer of sweetened cream cheese, topped with cinnamon sugar. Just delicious and so easy.

Okay. Ya gotta admit. Doesn't that just look dreamy?

I just happened to have a package of crescent rolls and cream cheese in the fridge when I ran across this recipe in the Best of the Best from Mississippi Cookbook and it sounded so good that it haunted me until I made it!
